CHARACTER
NAME: Taichi Nanao
CANON: A3! Act! Addict! Actors!
CANON POINT: End of Sparkling Summer Memory (current event U.S. release, out since 2017 in Japan- all 2017 events are translated here. So it’s been available for a while, but if that’s not OK because it’s the current English-official event, then I’ll play from after High Spirits at the Hot Spring!)
AGE: 16
BACKGROUND: The wiki doesn’t really have a summary of it that isn’t just fully reading the translations so here we go: Taichi was a super average, normal kid who wanted to be more. He practiced ultra yo-yo tricks after he saw how popular they made other students, but by the time he mastered them the fad was already over. A relative of his got him an extra role on a TV show and he saw how popular it made him and begged his parents to enroll him in child actor’s school. They did, and he kept trying out for different TV shows and basically couldn’t get anything but extra roles. He met Tenma Sumeragi and realized he would never be anything special, but he still couldn’t give it up and ended up joining the God Troupe. Again, he ended up with small side parts and extra roles until one day the showrunner, Reni, told him he would be given a main cast role if he infiltrated Mankai Company and acted as a spy/saboteur. Desperate, Taichi agreed and joined the Mankai Company’s Autumn Troupe (bc Mankai Company has no standards and just needs warm bodies to stay open at this point, yay). He does as he’s told and plays the part of an enthusiastic actor, while simultaneously sending threatening letters and ruining costumes and stealing props in the middle of shows and so on. Eventually, his guilt grows too strong and he ends up tearfully confessing to Omi. Though tensions are high, Mankai Company understands and accepts him and Yuki (costume designer/Summer troupe member) makes him pay him back in free sewing labor. Thus he joined the Mankai Company for real and left God Troupe behind, putting his efforts into becoming the kind of troupe member that can stand proudly on a stage with his fellow troupe and surpass Tenma on the stage on day.

PERSONALITY: Part of the "Puppy Pair," Taichi is a very excitable, social young man. He can be loud, friendly, and tries (though doesn't always succeed) to break up any fighting. He wants to be a good older brother despite Tsuzuru’s opinion that he acts like a little brother, and genuinely wants someone to love him romantically. He's a little high-strung and often-times too eager to please others. Mostly because Taichi's goals in life are simply: he wants to be popular.

So much so that he'll put in a ton of effort into things just to be noticed, sometimes taking too long and it no longer being relevant by the time he's mastered it. In order to make himself stand out more, he started dying his hair red, keeping up with the hottest fashion trends, got piercings, and more. He puts in a lot of effort into his appearance, even if it never really seems to pay off for him. (He’s the kind of guy who would definitely wait in line at a Supreme store for 3 hours, okay?) Acting was the first thing that Taichi saw himself as having a chance in and felt the rush of really enjoying himself while doing. While he's willing to dedicate himself to the hard work, he also doesn't always believe in himself to the point of being able to trust that that will be enough. This can lead to him sometimes making bad decisions, including deception and destructive behavior even if he knows it's wrong. He does have a conscience and ultimately isn't a bad person, though he's taken great strides to improve that kind of behavior and not betray the people who care about him again.

He's still got a penchant for trying to achieve his goals in ways that don't rely on his own talents, since he doesn't have a lot of self-confidence after years of experience not being able to stand out no matter what he tried. He truly looks up to Banri and Juza, who he thinks of as exemplary men, and relies heavily on Omi, who is pretty much everything he wants to be. He's asked Omi to teach him to be more like him, though Omi refused because he believed Taichi is good as he is. He's quick to listen to the advice (or orders) of others, including washing his face like Azami instructs, or doing basically whatever Yuki tells him to. The other side of this is that he does have jealous tendencies and tends to put others above himself, finding himself envious of Banri’s ability to pick up any skill without effort or Juza’s passion and purity in his love for theater. He tends to lift others up despite not doing the same for himself, sometimes using colorful language to do so (example: Omi is an “angel of muscles.”) He’s not without a fighting spirit, however, and can get competitive if the mood strikes-- particularly with Tenma, who he called the “emblem of all [his] insecurities” in his Portrait. When he’s feeling down, his go-to solution is to eat food he likes, though he can’t really cook so it’s often junk food, and then go talk to his friends. Taichi confesses in a blog post that there are a lot of things that get him down, but talking with everyone always helps him take his mind off of it if it’s something hot dogs can’t fix.

Most of the time, however, Taichi is the ball of energy-- especially first thing in the morning, and loves large gatherings like festivals. Though he will get into gaming, unlike Itaru he is free-to-play only and would rather do things in real life than in a game given the chance. A member of the Autumn troupe, he’s honed his athletics and eventually becomes the best out of the group at martial arts (tai.. chi… ahahahaha)-- but at his current canon point, he’s only generally athletic and capable of doing action stunts because of it, even in ad-libbed street performances. He also seems to have fun with the way people compare him to a dog-- if Yuki calls him a dog, he’ll go "arf arf!" and on Tasuku’s birthday, he offered to be his faithful dog, mentions it’d be fine if Azuma was his owner, etc. This high-energy behavior is often reflected in his speech style as well, as he’s a pretty noisy person and in Japanese has the speech tick “-ssu” at the end of some sentences. That said, he does end up with an early bed time because he uses so much energy, though if someone else (like the director or his troupe members) are staying up, he’ll try to power through it so he can go to bed at the same time. That said, the way Taichi’s brain works makes him act a little airheaded from time to time, doing things like wanting to get chalk to outline the body when an unconscious person is found or having to actually learn that girls aren’t just giggly moeblobs (thankfully, he’s past that). He uses text-character emojis in his typing. Taichi has a penchant for nicknaming a lot of people (Ban-chan, Juza-san, Omi-kun, Director-sensei, Sakyo-nii, Sakkun, etc.) to feel closer when they let him. He doesn’t clean his room (Omi does it for him). He jokes around about things he wants sometimes and then adds “unless…?” to give people an opportunity to correct him without getting hurt. He’s not good at academics, but can catch up when given positive-reinforcement based tutoring (Tsumugi, not Sakyo) and a focused, hard work.

Overall, Taichi is really just an energetic puppy in human form doing his best to overcome his weaknesses and find his spot in the light among his friends. (And become popular!!)

APARTMENT
Taichi's got a studio apartment that he moved into across the hall from where he was staying with Banri for a bit. It's very stylized the way he likes it:

Main room (bedroom, sitting room, table/desk). He's usually got stuff and clothe strewn about because he's not used to cleaning up after himself, but at least there's not trash everywhere. Just clothes. :') He doesn't want to do the laundry.

Main room angle two, showing entrance/shelf, and blinds separating entry way and windows from the rest of the room. Shelf has cool stuff Taichi gets his hands on, like a jellyfish aquarium and a pile of fashion magazines.

Kitchen. He hand-painted Akapoyo-kun on the wall. The kitchen usually is cleanish unless he recently attempted to cook (then it is a disaster for at least an hour or two after), but there are often dishes in the sink.

Bathroom. The bathroom is probably the cleanest room in the apartment bc he's a dumb teenage boy who doesn't like cleaning his room, but he's a dumb teenage boy who used to live with a roommate he respected and did not want to have to clean up his peepee if he missed the toilet while half-asleep in the middle of the night. He's a good boy, so now he at least always cleans the bathroom!!
